Jack Wise
Jack wise was born April 27th, 1928, Centerville, Iowa. He received a bachelor’s in fine arts at Washington University and a Master of Science in Art from Florida State University, while Wise was living in Miguel de Allende, he met Toni Onley who told Wise about life in Vancouver. Once he returned to Mexico Wise became very unhappy and quit painting for a few years, instead he took an art directing position at an advertising firm in San Francisco and later immigrated to British Colombia, Canada. Shortly after landing in BC he started to continue his painting practices. In 1965 Wise had his first solo exhibition in a new design Gallery in Vancouver. Later, he won a Canada council senior fellow ship for travel and study of Tibetan Art in India during 1966. Wise traveled to many parts of Asia such as India, a Zen Buddhist monastery in Japan, Delhi, and Tibetan refugee camps in Northern India. The Exposure Wise had to Asian art Techniques, Works, thought, and religion altered his artistic practices. After living between various Countries and landscapes throughout Europe he settled and lived in a cabin on a small island, Denman, for the final yeas of his life. Later passed away in the year 1996.
